Reservations for the 2010 festival are closed. Some tickets for the brunch or pontoon boat tours may be available at the check-in desks during the festival weekend.
All of the speakers and most of the activities at the Heron Festival are free and available on a first-come-first-served basis. Entrance to the State Park on that weekend is also free for people coming to the festival.
Only two activities require registrations and payment. They are:
- • Pontoon Boat Tours: $15 per person
- • Wildflower Brunch: $15 per person
Boat Tours Information
Pontoon boat trips last approximately one and a half hours depending on the weather and wind conditions. With an Audubon guide on each boat, you will visit several tree-top nesting sites along the lakeshore north of the state park where you are likely to see Great Blue Heron and/or Double-crested Cormorant nests. You will also see thousands of grebes in courtship displays on the lake, as well as other shorebirds and wildlife.
Children age 8 or older are welcome, but experience has shown that younger children often cannot sit relatively quietly for the 90-minute tour. For the comfort of all guests on the boat and the educational value of the tour guide's presentation, this age restriction is necessary.
The cost for the boat trip has no reduced price for children because they occupy the same space as an adult.
